Charles W. “Bill” Lindey

Charles W. “Bill” Lindey, 84, of Findley Township, Mercer County, formerly of Prospect, passed away at 6 p.m. Sunday evening at his home under hospice care following a one-month illness.

Bill was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Brady Township, to Joseph A. and Ethel Wall Lindey. He married Margaret Mary “Peggy” Miller Sept. 3, 1957; she preceded him in death June 1, 1981. He later married Margaret, A. Black Paxton May 3, 1997.

Bill was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School, Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of East Main Presbyterian Church and participated in the Tri-Fidelis Sunday School Class. While living in Prospect, he was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school.

He retired as a carpenter and was employed by Pullman-Standard and Kiser Engineering contracted to Armco Steel.

Bill enjoyed woodworking projects, building furniture, gardening, bird watching and traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, at home; eight children, Cynthia Sankey and her husband, Richard, of Plain Grove, Charles A. Lindey of Prospect, LaVerne Lindey and his wife, Patty, of Butler, Valerie Ireland and her husband, Scott, of Prospect, Steve Paxton and his wife, Laura, Joe Paxton and his wife, Sue, both of Findley Township, Larry Paxton and his wife, Carol, of Newport News, Va., and Sara Jane Hollis and her husband, Steve, of West Grove; his daughter-in-law, Karen Lindy of Grove City; 27 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Ardell Watson, and her husband, Bill, of Butler.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; his son, Duane L. Lindey; his grandson, Joseph Frye; three sisters, Cora Wick, Ethel Jane Pizor and Lavinia Sterrett; and three brothers, Joseph, Walter and David Lindey.

LINDEY — Visitation hours for Charles W. “Bill” Lindey, who died Sunday, June 5, 2016, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 E. Main St., Grove City, with the Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating.Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Prospect.Memorials may be made to East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 E. Main St., Grove City, PA 16127 and VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
