Robert D. Christie

Robert D. Christie, 68, of Adrian passed away at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1945, in Boydstown to the late Dean W. Lang and Glenda (Christie) Lang.

Mr. Christie was a 19-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a medic during his tours in Vietnam.

He became a diesel mechanic when he returned to the United States. He drove a truck for 15 years for Steve Smith Trucking in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Mr. Christie enjoyed hunting and fishing in Alaska. He especially enjoyed spending time with his great-nieces and nephews.

Mr. Christie is survived by his two sisters, Pamela Wright and her husband, Charles, of Adrian, who he lived with the past four years, and Robin Gall and her husband, Joe, of Saxonburg; his cousin, Donny Weaver and his wife, Sue, of Prospect; his two nieces, Christie Conklin and her husband, Eric, of Karns City and Jessica Appleman and her husband, Jeremy, of Adrian; his three great-nieces, Trinity Appleman, Jocelyn Appleman and Emma Conklin; his great-nephew, Elijah Conklin; and his aunt, Mildred Weaver of Butler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Blackwelder) Christie, who passed away on June 26, 2011; his two brothers, Larry and Jeff Lang; his two great-nephews, J.J. and Joey Gall; and his great-niece, Krystal Gall.

Christie— The friends of Robert D. Christie, who passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will immediately follow at 5 p.m. with the Pastor David West of the GraceWay Community Church officiating.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military honors.Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
