Sara Irene Shockey Gallagher

Sara Irene Shockey Gallagher, 87, passed away Aug. 31 in Greer, S.C.

She had been a hospice patient of Kindred Hospice at Brushy Creek in Greer.

Born Nov. 9, 1929, in Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence O. and Wilda Patterson Shockey.

Sara Irene was a beautician in her early years while raising her family and retired as a bus driver for Campbell Bus Lines in Slippery Rock.

She was married 65 years to Edward A. Gallagher, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas A. (Donna), Clarence R. (Debbie) and Robert P. (Lisa); three daughters, Helen E. (George Wall) Daubenspeck, Sara I. (Robert) Birckbichler and Ann M. (Michael) Coggins; her brother, James R. (Harriet) Shockey; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, James E.; and her infant daughter, Agnes Marie.

She was a Catholic by faith and had been a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church while living in Butler, then of St. Peters Church while living in Slippery Rock, in her later years. In 2015, she moved to Greer, S.C., and attended Blessed Trinity Catholic church while living with her daughter, Helen.

Sara was always very social and loved people and traveling with her husband in their camper. They were always seen with one of their dogs and “Pookie” was their latest companion.

GALLAGHER — Funeral services for Sara Irene Shockey Gallagher, who died Aug. 31, 2017, were conducted Sept. 2 at Blessed Trinity Church in Greer, S.C. Interment will be handled by the Smith Funeral Home of Slippery Rock at St. Anthony's in Harrisville.The family requests any donation may be made to the Alzheimer Association; the Kindred Hospice at 905 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302; or charity of your choice.
