Brant sparks softball sweep
SLIPPERY ROCK — Knoch graduate and Slippery Rock University junior Kirsten Brant went 5-for-7 with four runs scored, four RBI and her first home run of the season as The Rock took a softball doubleheader from Gannon University, 10-3 and 11-2, Friday.
SRU (12-2, 2-0) has now won nine straight games.
Brant has eight multi-hit games this season.
The Rock hit four home runs in the two games. Natalie Atkinson hit a grand slam and Katie Saluga and Butler High graduate Jenna Geibel also homered.
Shaylee Ianno and Shauna Walker each earned wins for The Rock, which has scored 10 or more runs in five of its last six games.
Women’s LacrosseThe Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team tallied the final nine goals of the game to pull away in a 17-7 victory over Millersville University Friday.The win marked the The Rock’s first win over Millersville since 1981.Lauren Laubach had three goals and one assist while Amy Halls and Samantha Eddy each added three goals for The Rock (3-3, 1-3).Alexis Slutsky, Emma VanDenburg and Casey Quinn also recorded two goals each.
Track and FieldCrystal Burnick ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time and set a SRU record in the 5,000-meter run to lead the women’s team at the Raleigh Relays Friday.Burnick placed 10th but clocked a time of 16 minutes, 50.72 seconds and bested Jackie Cassebaum’s time of 16:51.33 (1985).
