SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Sliders first baseman Matt Calhoun has been named the Prospect League Player of the Year.

Calhoun hit .360 on the season, collecting 62 hits, 26 RBI and seven home runs. He attends Harding University.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the PSAC this season, accordig to the league's preseason coaches poll.Defending champion Mercyhurst, ranked No. 4 nationally this season, is the overwhelming choice to repeat.The Rock is coming off an 11-4-6 record and returns seven of its top eight scorers from a year ago. Among the returning starters are forward Michael Ramirez (Slippery Rock) and defender Josh Brake (Mars). Other county players in the mix for SRU this season are midfielder Kyle Boyer (Butler) and defender Stephen McConahy (Seneca Valley).

SARVER — Sarver resident Carl Bowser won the annual Red Miley Rumble Sprint car race Saturday night at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway.The win was Bowser's third of the season, the others coming at Lernerville Speedway July 12 and Aug. 2.
