Ruth Ann Gallagher, 59, of Butler died Thursday night at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born on July 24, 1953, in Darby, Pa., a daughter of Joseph A. and Ruth Free Gallagher. She had lived most of her adult life in Aiken, S.C., and had been in Butler for the past three years.

Ruth was an artist and professional horsewoman, who trained and exercised horses, and she had formerly owned a catering business and made desserts for restaurants. She had received several local awards for her cooking and her art.

She was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

She is survived by two brothers, Joseph (Kathy) Gallagher of Denver, N.C., and John (Heloise) Gallagher of Ivyland, Pa.; three sisters, Susan Closkey of Butler, Patricia Ann Magnus of Houston, Texas, and Barbara Ann “Bonnie” (John) Cavanaugh of Maple Glen, Pa.; an aunt, Joan (Frank) DuGan of Levittown, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews.

GALLAGHER — There will not be a visitation for Ruth Ann Gallagher, who died Thursday, May 23, 2013. Following the cremation, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Maple Glen, Pa. Interment will take place at the St. John Neuman Cemetery, Chalfont.Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, Butler.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
