Edwin Pietrusinski

Edwin Pietrusinski, 86, of Zelienople, passed away Friday after an extended illness.

Born on July 3, 1930, at his home on Milwaukee Street in the Polish Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh to Edmund and Anna Pietrusinski, Edwin spent his teenage years on West Bardonner Road in Gibsonia and graduated from Hampton High School with the Class of 1948.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, serving on the USS Yosemite. Edwin was member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and had regularly served as an usher in his younger days.

Edwin worked in a variety of capacities in the retail food industry during his 39 year career, beginning with Thorofare Supermarkets from 1955 to 1982 (Lawrenceville, Center Avenue, Pines Shopping Plaza, Wexford Plaza, Butler Point Plaza, Butler Bon Air Plaza); as a Voortmann Cookie Distributor from 1983 to 1989; Tenser Phipps and Leaper from 1989 to 1991 and BiLo Northgate Plaza from 1991 to 1994. Upon retiring from BiLo, Edwin became a bus driver for the Seneca Valley School District on the Glen Eden Road route.

During his free time, Edwin enjoyed rooting on the Steelers and Pirates, hunting, mystery novels, jigsaw puzzles and providing care to his grandchildren. Also, he served as a commissioner and coach with the Zelienople Harmony Athletic Association between 1976 and 1982.

Ed loved to be out an' about, engaged in conversation where ever he went. As his niece states, “Uncle Ed always listened to you and made you feel like you were so important.”
