The Butler County Prison Board today adopted a booking fee for inmates.

The $25 fee will be assessed to inmates upon their incarceration.

The fee would be taken from any money an inmate has, whether it’s in the prisoner’s possession upon being arrested or brought to the prison by a friend or a relative.

Inmates aren’t eligible for any privileges or allowed to make commissary purchases until the fee is paid.

The fee only applies to county inmates. State and federal inmates cannot be assessed.

A $3 disciplinary hearing fee also will be charged to inmates convicted of misconduct at a formal hearing.
