MUDDY CREEK TWP — The 2010 Regatta at Lake Arthur has announced a new activity for this year's event.

The traditional "Anything That Floats Race" will be replaced by an event based on "Puddle Duck Racers."

These are very small sailboats that are easily built by one person in a weekend for $100 or less in materials. The basic form is an Ugly Duckling, but imagination can convert it to an outrageous or beautiful craft.

The boat is basically a plywood box with a curved bottom. It can be made from two sheets of plywood, glue and paint in about 10 hours. The sail can be a tarp or other material.

All boats must conform to the basic rules of construction, but there is plenty of room for creativity. It will hold up to 630 pounds or up to four or five people. It can be sailed or rowed; no motors will be permitted at the Regatta event.

Prizes will be awarded for appearance and a race.

Entrants will be asked for a $25 donation per boat, which will go toward the Regatta Fireworks fund and prizes for the events.

PITTSBURGH — The Shadyside Art Festival on Walnut Street will have its spring debut May 22 and 23 and include a battle of the bands.The festival will showcase a mix of art by contemporary artists. PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh CLO's Production of "Oliver!" will feature Victoria Huston who attends Buffalo Elementary School.
