Freeport grad shines

in Behrend victory

ERIE — Freeport graduate Ashleigh Schmidt tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out 10 Friday as the Penn State Behrend softball team won its AMCC Tournament opener, 4-0, over Medaille.

Schmidt’s win was her 10th of the season. She tripled in the game as well.

Johnston guides

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Evans City resident Shawn Johnston guided Chuck The Cheese to a win against 8-1 odds during harness racing action Friday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The 4-year-old gelding won a $7,000 Conditioned Claiming Pace.

Butler’s Isherwood

helps SRU win

WEXFORD — Butler graduate Teddi Isherwood teamed with Gabriela del Val del Toro for a doubles win, then earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at singles for Slippery Rock University’s women’s tennis team Friday.

The Rock defeated West Liberty, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Isherwood, a freshman, has 22 wins on the season.
