Confederate flags out at farm showHARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Farm Show has stopped six vendors from selling items decorated with the Confederate flag symbol.Brandi Hunter-Davenport, press secretary for the state Department of Agriculture, said that the vendors must stop selling the items or they’ll be asked to leave.The flags are seen by some to symbolize racism and the press secretary says the farm show disagrees “with any items that symbolize the oppression or intolerance of others.”John Lewis, who manages the Wandering Cowboys booth that sold some of the items, says they are bought by people seeking a “country boy persona.”

Sandusky-founded charity to closeBELLEFONTE — The charity founded by disgraced former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky has filed a court petition seeking permission to go out of business.The Second Mile organization filed the 40-page petition in Centre County on Monday.The charity’s board says the charity’s fundraising has dropped to nothing and nearly all of its assets have been distributed in the wake of Sandusky’s arrest and conviction on charges he molested several boys, including some he met through the charity.Sandusky founded the group in 1977 with the stated purpose of helping disadvantaged children.The court filing formalizes the board’s decision in July to close the charity. The petition asks the court to transfer any remaining assets to the state attorney general’s office and to officially dissolve the charity.
