Robert J. “Bob” Eppinger, 80, of Butler passed away at 12:28 p.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Butler to the late Earl Eppinger and Mary (Kiley) Eppinger.

Mr. Eppinger worked as a coal miner in the Butler County area. He was a life member of the East Butler Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Pittsburgh Steeler and NASCAR fan. Bob was the last surviving member of his family.

Mr. Eppinger is survived by his wife, BettyLou (Host) Eppinger, who he married Aug. 26, 1957; one son, Robert J. Eppinger Jr. and his wife, Barbara (Reges) Eppinger, of Butler; one grandson, Robert “Pip” Eppinger of Butler; one great-grandson, Robert Alexander Eppinger; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Eppinger; two sisters; and four brothers.

EPPINGER — Friends of Robert J. “Bob” Eppinger, who passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert C. Huber of North Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.The family invites everyone to the East Butler Fire Department's social hall for dinner after the funeral service.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
