CENTER TWP — Three people are running for two, six-year township supervisor terms.

Supervisor Chairman Ed Latuska, a Republican, and Phil Wulff, also a Republican, are being challenged by Don Pringle, a Democrat.

Latuska, a physical therapist, is the longest-tenured supervisor, with 18 years on the board.

If re-elected he said he hopes to keep taxes low and to continue to work on economic development in the township — including a proposed new road that would connect North Duffy Road to Lions Road near the new VA Butler Healthcare facility.

“We're pursuing every avenue we can and we're going to get that road built and open up that area to future development,” he said.

Wulff, an electrical contractor and volunteer firefighter with the Unionville department, said he believes that officials should hold the line on taxes for the foreseeable future. He also would like to work to bring businesses to the township.

“We're looking at the growth of the township and trying to get more businesses into the township,” he said.

Pringle, who owns a logging business and sawmill, said his 20 years of experience in agriculture and with roads would be valuable to the township. He also has experience dealing with the federal government.

“Throughout this campaign I've met with many Center Township residents. Each of which has relayed to me that it is 'time for a change.' We need new ideas,” he said.

Pringle's bid for a nomination in the Republican primary was unsuccessful, but he earned enough write-in votes from Democrats to get on the November ballot.

Wulff is also running unopposed for one open two-year supervisor position, though he can only accept one post if he wins both races.

If he turns down one of the positions, it would be left vacant until the township supervisors appoint a person to fill in.

Supervisor Ken Frenchak decided not to run for re-election this year and will leave the five-member board.
