CLAIRTON — One worker was hurt and a second was briefly missing but being attended to after an explosion and fire were reported at United States Steel's Clairton Coke Works near Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County dispatchers said the call came in at 11:26 a.m. today.

United States Steel has its own fire department, which responded to the scene. A company spokeswoman said she didn't immediately have any information to release.

Dispatchers said the injured worker was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. That facility often treats burn victims. The second worker was being evaluated at the scene.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire or where in the plant it occurred.
