Kenneth I. McAlpine
Kenneth I. McAlpine, 66, of Callery died Friday evening at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born on April 28, 1947, in Butler, he was the son of the late John S. and Goldie M. Gibson McAlpine.
Ken had been a dispatcher and supervisor for Vogel Disposal in Mars. For many years before that, he was chief of police for both the Adams Township and Callery police departments and had managed the Mars Agway for 13 years. Ken had been the owner of McAlpine's Family Restaurant in Mars, which he had operated for a year.
He had been a member of the Mars Volunteer Fire Department and was a former chief of the Callery Volunteer Fire Department, was a social member of the Mars VFW Post 7505 and belonged to the Mars Rod and Gun Club. He attended the Crestview Community Church in Callery.
Ken was a member of the John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM and the Syria Shrine and Consistory. He was an avid John Wayne Collector.
Surviving are his wife, Connie “Hazel” Geyer McAlpine, who he married on June 29, 1968; a daughter, Marcia McAlpine (Mike Rogers) of Beaver; a son, Kenneth I. McAlpine Jr. (Kristen) of Valencia; his grandchildren, Kyle “Jake” and Kelsey “Lucy;” his canine companion, Bandit II; a sister, Nancy M. Painter of Zelienople; two brothers, Martin Edward and James R. McAlpine, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John McAlpine, and his grand puppies, Onyx and Duke.
MCALPINE — Friends of Kenneth I. McAlpine, who died Friday, June 21, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Goosen, pastor of the Crestview Community Church, officiating.
