Richard John Marks

Richard John Marks, 71, of Butler passed away Tuesday morning at his residence due to natural causes.

Born Dec. 5, 1946, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late John and Delores Kvasnak Marks.

He was a graduate of Clairton High School and attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

A U.S. Army veteran, he faithfully served our country from 1966 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He was in the Big Red 1 and played in the Army Band.

As a young man, he worked at JCPenney, then drove an armored truck with money deliveries. He then worked at Butler Refrigerated Meats, where he loaded trucks in the warehouse, then became a supervisor and went on to driving trucks. He ended his career there as a dispatcher.

After retirement, he returned to the work force as a housekeeper at the Butler VA Community Living Center and he was a DJ on Doo-Wop Radio on Thursdays and Saturdays.

He had a love for music and enjoyed fishing, swimming and boating on Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park.

He is survived by his wife, Darla Jayne McCandless Marks, whom he married July 7, 1995; his sons, John-Michael Marks and Brendan Marks, both of Butler; his siblings, John (Ethel) Marks of McMurray, Annette (Bob Cotugno) Warner of Fayette City, and Pam (Robert Jackson) Marks of Maryland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Marks; and his nephew, John.
