John J. Keener

John J. Keener, 86, of Butler died Wednesday at the Abie Abraham VA Healthcare Center in Butler.

Born Sept. 12, 1932, in East Brady, he was the son of Philip L. and Wilda M. (Miliron) Keener.

John attended East Brady High School and studied voice with Michael Dolan in Butler.

A U.S. Army veteran, John served as a private first class during the Korean conflict. He was a soloist with the Seventh Division Chorus in Korea. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After returning, John graduated from Manhattan School of Music in New York and performed several recitals in New York and Philadelphia. He also was a member and lead singer with the Fifth Avenue Opera Association.

Surviving are his wife, Bernadette Keener of Butler; one sister, Joan Black of Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

KEENER — Graveside services for John J. Keener, who died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Eusebius Cemetery, East Brady with the Rev.
