Bluegrass bands, fans flock to Ice Jam this weekend

The 21st January Ice Jam will once again bring together people of all ages to enjoy bluegrass music during the winter months.

Listeners, new musicians and veteran players can come together on Friday and Saturday at the Butler Days Inn. Admission is free.

With well over 2,000 people in attendance annually, the Jam offers bands a venue to play into all hours of the night.

The Ice Jam originated in 1997 as a way of bringing together hundreds of “bluegrassers” during the offseason for festivals.

As many as 28 different bands will take part in the Ice Jam playing traditional, contemporary and gospel bluegrass music this year.

The Ice Jam officially begins when the first band takes the stage at 7 p.m. Friday. The stage is again alive with music at 1 p.m. Saturday. Bands play for 30 minute sets up until about 11 p.m. both nights. Refreshments will be available.
