Work is set to ramp up on Route 19 in Marshall Township near the Butler County line.

MARSHALL TWP — A milling and paving project near the Butler County line is set to ramp up this week.

The resurfacing work on Route 19 (Perry Highway) in Marshall Township, Allegheny County, began in the spring, with single-lane closures on the weekends between Shenot Road/Northgate Road and Freeport Road. Crews from Lindy Paving have been performing the work.

According to Steve Cowan, PennDOT spokesman, overnight lane restrictions will begin this week, with work being done from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Additionally, the work will now take place in both directions, whereas previous work was being done in one direction at a time.

These restrictions are in addition to single-lane closures from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, Cowan said. Overnight lane restrictions will continue on weekends through the end of July.

“There will be lane restrictions pretty much any time that you drive through there except for rush hour times,” he said.

The work will continue through the end of the construction season this fall. Cowan advised motorists to allow extra travel time or avoid the area if possible until work is completed.

The work is part of the $9.49 million project to improve Route 19. The project also includes concrete curb ramp installation, base repairs, concrete pavement rehabilitation, guide rail improvements, signage upgrades, signal work, pavement marking installation, and other miscellaneous construction.
