Looking to right the ship this week

I am so ashamed.

The old Scoopster is not off to a good start in the high school football prediction game, my friends.

I started the season on a bad talon, going 4-3.

Unacceptable.

I mean, 4-3? If I want to reach my goal of 90 wins this season, that just isn’t going to cut it.

But it’s a new week and a new slate of games. I have a chance with a good run in Week One to erase the nightmare of Week Zero.

On to the picks:

Penn Hills 32, Butler 12 — The Golden Tornado could be a sneaky team this season, but they get off to a rough start against a very good Penn Hills team.

Seneca Valley 21, Peters Township 15 — The Ron Butschle era begins at Seneca Valley with a victory.

South Fayette 34, Mars 15 — The Planets shook off a shaky start last week against Hampton and started to look like those Mars teams of old, dominating up front and running the ball at will.

The Planets will have a tough time against South Fayette, however.

Blackhawk 23, Knoch 12 — The triple option makes its Knoch debut, which makes this game hard to predict.

If the Knights pick it up quickly, this could be a win for Knoch, but I have to go with my gut that there will be a few growing pains in the offense.

Neshannock 40, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 19 — In a rematch of a playoff game last season that definitely got away from the Trojans, North Catholic will look for a little payback.

But Neshannock is just too good.

Western Beaver 29, Summit Academy 12 — Another game that is hard to call, but I have to go with Western Beaver.

Karns City 29, Brookville 19 — The Gremlins were uncharacteristically on the other end of a blowout last week.

But don’t fret, Karns City fans. It’s hard to imagine the Gremlins not righting the ship, and it starts this week.

St. Marys 27, Moniteau 16 — Another new coach with a new offense makes a debut this week. The Warriors and first-year coach Jon McCune go up against a foe that should be familiar to Moniteau fans.

Another game that if a new offense clicks from the start, it could go another way. Have to go with my gut again, though.

Clarion-Limestone 36, Union/A-C Valley 19 — The Falcon Knights will be a fun team to watch this season. They’ll give the Lions a battle.

Greenville 22, Slippery Rock 9 — Both teams are coming off impressive wins by a single point in Week Zero. Both would love to go 2-0, but only one can pull that off.

Grove City 41, Warren 13 — The Eagles seem to be OK with new quarterback Brady Callahan at the helm. It helps when he’s surrounded by talent, and Grove City has plenty.

Scoop wants to go 11-0 this week.
