John Edwards' criminal case delayed to July

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A federal judge is delaying the proceedings in the criminal case against John Edwards until July.

Judge Carlton Tilley said today he wants prosecutors and defense attorneys to come to an agreement about how and when documents will be released before going further. The two-time Democratic presidential candidate and former U.S. senator from North Carolina was charged earlier this month after a two-year investigation into whether he used campaign contributions to cover up an extramarital affair.

He has pleaded not guilty to four counts of illegal campaign contributions and charges of conspiracy and making false statements.

Edwards arrived at the courthouse and greeted reporters but did not respond to questions about the case.
