A Center Township man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl at least twice — once more than a decade ago — at different locations in Butler County

Michael D. Hedglin, 44, admitted having “sexual contact” with the girl when she was 3 years old, state police said, and later when she was 13.

Police arrested Hedglin on Wednesday, a day after his accuser, who is 17, detailed her allegations in an interview with authorities.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendant on felony charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, child endangerment, corruption of minors, and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and indecent exposure.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail following arraignment.

The girl only recently disclosed the alleged assault to a clergy member at her church, said Trooper Max DeLuca, who investigated the case.

On Tuesday, she told a forensic interviewer with the Butler County Alliance for Children about what happened, the first time in Butler Township and about 10 years later in Center Township.

She recounted that Hedglin told her not to tell anyone, police said.

DeLuca interviewed the defendant at the barracks.

“Hedglin acknowledged that he did have sexual contact with the victim when she was approximately 3 years of age,” according to a police affidavit, “and again when she was 13 years of age.”

Police placed him under arrest following the interview, which was recorded on audio and video.

Hedglin's preliminary hearing is set for May 16 at Stoughton's office in Chicora.

It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
