KARNS CITY — The Karns City School Board is seeking a new high school marching band director.

Last month the board voted to open the position. Superintendent Eric Ritzert said it was a programming decision.

Dorinda Aigner, who has been band director at Karns City since she was hired 23 years ago, still will be a full-time music teacher in the district.

Ritzert said Aigner initially re-applied for the job, but then changed her mind.

The board's next meeting is Monday.

ZELIENOPLE — The borough council Monday night passed an ordinance banning all on-street parking on East Beaver Street between Main Street and Division Street. The parking there had created traffic and safety issues, borough manager Don Pepe said. That street area connects Main Street to the Zelienople Community Park and also is used as part of the route for parades in the borough, which contributed to the council’s desire to end parking there, Pepe said.Parking already is prohibited on the south side of the street, with the north side having free parking with a two-hour restriction between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
