DA: Officers justified in shooting manPITTSBURGH — A western Pennsylvania prosecutor says two transit police officers were justified in shooting and killing a man who had stabbed a police dog to death.Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. said Tuesday that Port Authority officers had repeatedly used non-lethal measures against 37-year-old Bruce Kelley Jr. to no effect, and he posed a danger to the public.Authorities said Kelley and his 60-year-old father were drinking in a Wilkinsburg busway gazebo in January and fought with officers. Officials said Kelley fled, leading police on a 20-minute chase, then produced a 4-inch knife and refused to drop it.Officials said they used a stun gun and pepper spray repeating before releasing the police dog, Aren, but Kelley stabbed the German shepherd. He was then shot almost a dozen times.

Kurt Angle’s brother pleads guiltyPITTSBURGH — Pro wrestler and former Olympian Kurt Angle’s brother has admitted under a plea deal to charges he killed his wife at their Pennsylvania home.David Angle, 63, had been charged with homicide. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Tuesday afternoon.Allegheny County homicide detectives say David Angle was arguing with Donna Angle, 57, about vodka when she tried to kick him in their Dormont home last September. They say he dragged her off a couch, stepped on her chest and pulled her arms before she became unconscious. He called 911 when he couldn’t revive her.

Man charged in fire pleads no contest PITTSBURGH — A man has pleaded no contest to all charges in an apartment fire that caused more than $2 million damage to several buildings in the main business district of a poor Pittsburgh suburb.Edward McDonald, 28, entered the plea Tuesday in Allegheny County to 15 counts including aggravated arson, causing a catastrophe and endangering property.
