Gravel gets sweep in WoO Sprints

BUFFALO TWP — David Gravel scored a clean sweep Saturday night during the World of Outlaws Sprints’ Commonweath Clash at Lernerville Speedway.

Gravel set the fast time of 12.416 seconds during qualifying, won his heat race, then the 8-car dash, and finally the 35-lap feature. He held off WoO points leader Brad Sweet to grab the $10,000 winner’s purse.

By winning the dash, Gravel earned pole position for the feature and took full advantage, though it took him a while to assume the lead. Wayne Johnson, who also started up front, grabbed the early lead. Sweet passed Johnson for the lead on the 12th lap.

Gravel dove under Sweet during a 22nd-lap restart to move in front. He maintained the advantage from there to claim his 10th WoO series win of the season.

The victory marked Gravel’s third Commonwealth Clash triumph at Lernerville.

Logan McCandless won the Allegheny Sprint Tour 305 main event, beating Jarrett Rosencrance and Jeff Weaver Jr. to the checkered flag.
