William Beels

William Howard Beels, 89, of Slippery Rock and formerly of Emlenton, passed away at his residence on Monday, March 22, 2021.

He was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Salem Township, to John Harold Beels and Evelyn Marie Hays Beels.

He married Ida Margaret Matthews on May 12, 1956.

He was a graduate of Allegheny County Community College.

Following his service in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean conflict, he had a very successful, lifelong career working for Columbia Gas, where he retired as “area manager” in 1993.He could fix anything and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and most of all, spending time with his family.He was a member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 550 of Knox and American Legion Post 997 of Lamartine.Survivors include his wife, Ida at home; three sons, David P. (Kim) Beels of Lancaster, S.C., Michael W. (Kathleen) Beels of Massillon, Ohio, and Steven R. (Sanna) Beels of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Donna Mae Best of Nickleville, Pa., and Shirley J. Heath of Lamartine, Pa.; his sister-in-law, Doris Beels of Carlisle, Pa.; five grandchildren, Stephen (Elise) Beels, Daniel (Amber) Beels, and Samuel, Jonathan and Seth Beels; and three great-grandchildren, Colton, Kinsley and Harrison.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glenn; and an infant sister.BEELS — Family and friends of William Howard Beels, who died Monday, March 22, 2021, will gather from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, 130 Franklin St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Keith McIlwain, pastor of the church presiding.Social distancing and masks are required.Interment will be in Salem-Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lamartine, Pa.Memorial contributions may be given to the Slippery Rock Rescue Squad or the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church.
