HARRISBURG — State hunting regulators on Tuesday postponed a decision on whether to expand the territory in southeastern Pennsylvania where deer hunters are banned from using rifles — a move that will maintain the existing rules for the 2008-09 hunting season.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission voted 6-1 to table a proposed regulation that would impose the ban in the rapidly growing Lehigh Valley.

Commissioner Gregory Isabella, who made the motion, said during a break in the commission's meeting that many hunters and sportsmen's groups have asked him questions about the proposal, and more time is needed to discuss it with them.

NEW WILMINGTON — Four Butler County student-athletes at Westminster College earned recognition on the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll for the fall 2007 season.Mandy Bearrow and Mallory Bugel (Mars, women's soccer), Steve Armahizer (Butler, men's soccer) and Danielle Hogue (Slippery Rock, volleyball) were among 41 Westminster athletes who earned a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Damaso Marte was involved in a car accident Tuesday while traveling to a workout, but did not suffer any significant injuries, an official from his winter league team said.Marte complained of discomfort in his neck after the accident, said Fernando Ravelo, general manager of the Licey Tigers. Despite that neck stiffness, Marte completed his workout without any problems, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Barbaro will be buried at the site of his greatest triumph.The 2006 Kentucky Derby champion, who was euthanized Jan. 29, 2007 from complications of a breakdown suffered at the Preakness, will have his ashes interred at Churchill Downs.Barbaro's remains will be placed outside of an entrance gate in a large elevated space enclosed by bricks. The site will also include a bronze statue commissioned by owners Roy and Gretchen Jackson and loaned to the track as part of the official memorial site.
