Freeport kicks-off Christmas celebration with parade, more
FREEPORT — The borough will get in the holiday spirit with several events this weekend.
The annual fireman’s parade will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, starting at the boat launch.
About eight groups will participate, including the Freeport High School marching band. The parade will last about 30 minutes.
After the parade, a Santa House will be at the fire hall. Children up to age 12 can visit Santa and get a bag of treats.
Saturday will kick off with a flea market at the Freeport Library from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and “business bingo” will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — where people can pick up a bingo card from businesses in the borough for a chance to win one of 25 gift baskets.
A train display and cookie sale will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Fifth Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Christmas music will be played at 2 p.m.
A children’s art show, along will face painting and cookie decorating, will be at the Canvas store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A miniature train display will be at the Masonic Hall on Fourth Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be hay rides through the borough. People can board the ride in front of the former kindergarten center.
At 5 p.m., a light-up night celebration will take place.
On Friday and Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., Christmas house tours will be offered.
Three buildings will be on the tour:
The Ricki Hastings/Joe Weltner house at 308 High St., which was built in 1910 and features 15 full-sized Christmas trees and other decorations
The Gerald DeAngelis Law Office at 512 Market St., which formerly contained the Guckenheimer Brewery
The Freeport History Center at 210 Sixth St., which is a former church built in 1837.
Tickets are $10 and can be bought at any of the homes on the tour during the tour times or can be bought in advance at the Canvas or the library.
A shuttle bus will pick people up and drop them off at the Canvas at the corner of High and Fifth streets.
