BlueSox roll over W. Va

Pavin Parks had a huge game, driving in five runs and pitching a scoreless ninth as the Butler BlueSox pounded West Virginia 9-5 Thursday night.

Parks hit a two-run homer in the first to get Butler’s potent offense started.

The BlueSox, though, trailed West Virginia 5-4 after six innings.

But Parks struck again with a two-run double to give Butler (7-7) a 6-5 lead.

The BlueSox added another run in the top of the eighth inning and broke the game open on a two-run double by James Meeker in the ninth.

Jack Herzing picked up the win with three innings of perfect relief. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Zach Henderson got the start, but lasted just five innings. He gave up five runs on five hits and walked five.

Parks fanned two in the bottom of the ninth.

Tanner Murphy, Calvin Scott and Joe Gunn also doubled for the BlueSox.

Butler’s defense was also solid.

After committing 40 errors in their first 13 games, the BlueSox played error free against the Miners Thursday.

Butler pounded out 14 hits. The BlueSox have scored 43 runs in their last four games.

Butler returns home to host Kokomo tonight and Friday.
