Ex-coach sentenced to prison time for sex abuse

PITTSBURGH — A former gymnastics coach from Clinton Township was sentenced to time in prison Tuesday for having inappropriate relationships with three girls who were his students.

Keith Callen, 46, was found guilty in March after a jury trial of multiple charges including aggravated indecent assault on someone less than 16 years old, aggravated indecent assault on someone less than 13 years old, sexual assault by a sports official, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.

Judge Donna Jo McDaniel ordered him to serve 13 to 26 years in prison at the end of a sentencing hearing Tuesday, according to a news release from the Allegheny County District Attorney.

Callen was charged by state police in April of 2016 for molesting a girl from age 14 to 17 while he was her private coach.

Police said the assaults happened at three different training facilities in Allegheny and Butler counties.

State police filed more charges in July when two sisters came forward and alleged Callen molested them in 2001, when they were 6 or 7.
