No league action expected on BlueSox sale
The proposed sale of the City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds, and Facilities Authority's share of the Butler BlueSox will not be voted on at the Prospect League board meeting this weekend.
David Chase, the league's commissioner, said the Nonprofit Development Corporation of Butler late this week submitted an application to buy the stake, but he said it likely will not be voted on when team representatives meet in Indianapolis, Ind., today and Saturday.
“At this point, it's not on our agenda,” Chase said, but added there could be some discussion on the sale.
The authority announced a deal Dec. 12 to sell its 40 percent stake in the team to the development corporation for $40,000.
Under the proposed agreement, the development corporation also would manage Kelly Automotive Park, formerly Pullman Park.
For the deal to be finalized, it must be approved by a majority of the league's board, which is composed of one representative from each of the league's 11 teams.
Chase said the proposed sale likely would be voted on in a conference call before the next board meeting in April, but he did not offer a specific time of when that call might take place.
The team's majority ownership group, which controls the other 60 percent of the team's stake, opposes the deal, claiming a 2009 agreement gave the group first right to any stake up for sale.
