Johnston wins pair
in harness racing
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Evans City resident Shawn Johnston drove a pair of horses to victory during harness racing action Friday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Star Caviar, against 30-1 odds, won a $7,000 Conditioned Trot. The 6-year-old gelding has won $110,334 in his career.
Chuck The Cheese, at 12-1, won a $7,000 Conditioned Trot, the 4-year-old gelding’s time of 1 minute, 53.4 seconds being the fastest of his career.
SRU spring game
ends in 28-28 tie
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s annual Green and White spring football game ended in a 28-28 tie Friday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
The offense trailed 28-20 before Devin Sims scored on a 7-yard run and Jackson Bouslough tossed a two-point conversion pass to Andrew Miller to knot the game. Sims rushed for 83 yards on 14 carries.
SRU used six quarterbacks in the game and threw for 284 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.
Team captains for the 2022 season — quarterback Noah Grover, offensive lineman Colton Rossi, safety Selvin Haynes and defensive tackle Jeff Marx — were announced prior to kickoff.
