Frances Kovalchick

Frances Kovalchick, 93, of Butler died Sunday evening at the St. Clair Family Hospice in Pittsburgh.

Born Oct. 12, 1923, in Sykesville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Stephan and Frances Zbuckvich.

She was the secretary and bookkeeper for the Kovalchick Supply Co. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora and also St. John's Ladies Guild. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, gardening and canning. She enjoyed biannual trips to Disney World, had loved animals and birds, and was an avid supporter of the Pittsburgh Aviary and the Phipps Conservatory. She and her sister, Julia, had married twin brothers.

Surviving are her children, Georgiann Maitland of Butler, Carolyn Wilkinson of Pittsburgh, Frances (John) Vissari of Butler, Karen Kovalchick of Butler, Stephanie Ragan of New Mexico, and George (Kay) Kovalchick of Butler; her grandchildren, Misty (Shawn) Maitland Stahl, Sherry (Jeff) Billett, Francine (Chris) Maitland Abbott, Rachael (Jeff) Smith, John (Missy) Vissari, Jennifer (Don) Hogg, Jessica (Justin) Cooper and Shannon Kovalchick; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Breck, Jackson, Scarlett, Adrienne, Alyson, Haley, Olivia and Kyle; two sisters, Helen Buckwalter of Texas and Julia Kovalchick of Sykesville, Pa.; and one brother, Frank Zbuckvich of East Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kovalchick, who she married June 27, 1942, and who died March 11, 2008; one infant son, George Stephen Kovalchick; and three sisters.

KOVALCHICK — Friends of Frances Kovalchick, who died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Parastas services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora.
