Mars eighth-grader sets lifting records

TARENTUM — Mars Area Middle School eighth-grader Mia Gratton set four state records while competing in the 2022 USA Powerlifting Pittsburgh Spring Classic recently at Legends of Pittsburgh Fitness.

Mia earned first place with 272.5 points in the Women’s Raw Teen I (ages 14-15) division. Her state records were a bench press of 126 pounds, back squat of 220, deadlift of 254 and total amount lifted of 600.

She is ranked sixth in the United States in her division.

SR graduate Mineo Pitcher of Week

Slippery Rock High School graduate and Slippery Rock University junior pitcher Ricky Mineo has been named PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

Mineo tossed a three-hit shutout in a 3-0 SRU win over nationally-ranked Seton Hill. He struck out eight and threw 94 pitches.

SRU sweeps honors for field athletes

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University seniors Jason Goodman and Cecily Greggs have been named PSAC West Male and Female Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Goodman won the decathlon at the Bison Outdoor Classic. His total of 6,791 is an NCAA provisional score and highest in the PSAC this season.

Greggs won the high jump at the Bison Outdoor Classic . She cleared an NCAA provisional height of 1.71 meters.
