Clarence R. “Coonie” Maley, 92, of Chicora died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born May 9, 1928, in Butler, and was the son of the late Clarence L. Maley and the late Mae Schultz Maley.

He worked for Berry Metal Co. in Harmony, for 36 years as top machinist, and built the O2 lance.

He was a well-known piano player; “Sing-along with Coonie.”

He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, earning the rank of corporal in Company G, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, receiving five medals, two Bronze Stars, and had received a Sharp Shooting medal.He was a lifetime member of Parker VFW Post 7073, and the Chicora American Legion Post 642. He had served at Heartbreak Ridge. He was a member of the Chicora Moose Lodge 962, and a member of the Chicora Senior Center.Coonie is survived by his loving wife, Helen Buzzard Maley, whom he married Nov. 1, 1952.He is also survived by a daughter, JoAnn and Bill Snyder of Butler; a son, Ronald and Vickie Maley of Chicora; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Maley of Fairview; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Maley, who died in 2018.MALEY — Friends of Clarence R. “Coonie” Maley, who died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mater Dolorosa Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain officiating.Military honors will be provided by the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion.Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.All COVID-19 guidelines are being followed.
