Katherine L. Scherder
Katherine L. Scherder, 78, of Chicora passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at New Haven Court, Butler, following a brief illness.
She was born Thursday, Aug. 6, 1942, in Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of the late George Vandersyde and the late Katherine M. Fleischer Vandersyde.
She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora, and the Christian Mothers of the church.
For years she worked in the social service field with PARC, Family Living Program in Butler. She was a bookkeeper for Parker Appliance for a number of years.
Kathy always had a remarkable outlook on life, and enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, and foster parenting, but most of all, she delighted in entertaining, teaching and just hanging out with her grandchildren.
She married Charles A. Scherder June 4, 1960, and he died Nov. 16, 2013.
She is survived by four daughters, Katherine L. and Jeffery Groves of Chicora, Caroline and Dennis Land of Kerrville, Texas, Rose M. and George Pawluk of Butler, and Mary Lou Scherder of Cranberry Township; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Wanda and Mary Vandersyde of Butler.
In addition to her parents and loving husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and George Vandersyde.
SCHERDER — Friends of Katherine L. Scherder, who died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev. Louis Pascazi officiating.Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
