Henry H. VanTine Sr.
Henry H. VanTine Sr., 90, of Freeport passed away Sunday surrounded by family, at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot.
Henry was born Oct. 28, 1926, in Freeport, a son of the late Edna Atkinson and Gilpen M. VanTine Sr. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
Henry was a clayman and blaster at Freeport Brick for 32 years. He then worked in the maintenance department at the Freeport School District for 14 years. Later he worked at BJ's Auto Service in Freeport for five years. He was a member of the Word of Faith in Natrona and also attended Evangel Heights in Buffalo Township. Henry enjoyed working on tractors and lawn mowers, playing the harmonica and playing horseshoes and having picnics at the VanTine farm.
He is survived by his two sons, Walter (Sherry) VanTine of Freeport and Terry (Sharon) VanTine of Cabot; two daughters, Kathy (Barry) Porter of Emlenton and Carol (Donald) Hedglin of Freeport; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Melissa Jane Mazerik of Natrona Heights; his brother, Thomas VanTine of Cabot; and his daughter-in-law, Rita VanTine of Herman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera M. Baptiste VanTine; his son, Henry “Butch” VanTine Jr.; his daughter, Vera “Babs” McGuire; his granddaughter, Jackilynn Porter; his brothers, Gilpen VanTine Jr., Richard VanTine and Roy George; and his sisters, Lilian Booher and Margaret Ruffner.
VANTINE — Family and friends of Henry H. VanTine Sr., who died Sunday, July 23, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Nulph officiating.
