Butler cruiserweight boxer Brian Minto will face Pierre Karam instead of previously scheduled opponent Cory Phelps in a 10-round bout that is the headliner of Friday's boxing card at Ghost Riders in Butler.
Karam is a native of Australia who migrated to the United States for training camps at Kronk Gym in Detroit. While there, Karam worked with legendary trainer Emanuel Steward, who trained world champions Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko.
The fight will be available in an online pay-per-view program at mintofight.com for $9.99.
JACKSON TWP — All three competitive cheer squads from the Seneca Valley Junior Football Association were awarded first place in their respective divisions at the recent Kiski Cheer Competition.The Raiders Blue, Warriors and Spears were winners and the Warriors squad was named Grand Champion for all divisions. The Spears received an award for best dance choreography.These squads, ages 8 to 13, finish their competitive seasons Nov. 7 at Norwin.
A WPIAL Class AA girls soccer quarterfinal playoff between Mars (19-0) and Knoch (11-6-1) will be played at 8 p.m. today at Shaler High.In Class AA boys, Mars (12-5-2) will face Elizabeth Forward (14-5) in a quarterfinal clash at 6 p.m. Thursday at Chartiers Valley High.
JEFFERSON TWP — The South Butler School Board will be presented with a proposal at 6 p.m. today to install artificial turf at Knoch Stadium.The proposal will be made at the Knoch Middle School library.
