Serial burglar gets 3 to 6 year prison sentence

A serial burglar from Buffalo Township will spend up to six years in state prison.

Joseph J. Barch, 27, of Meadow Street pleaded guilty to seven counts of burglary and five counts of conspiracy.

Butler County Judge William Shaffer on Tuesday sentenced Barch in keeping with a plea arrangement Barch made with the county district attorney: 3 to 6 years in prison, followed by four years of probation.

However, the judge decided that if Barch completes a program in the state prison designed to deter recidivism, he may be released in as few as 27 months.

According to court records, the burglaries took place in 2010, mainly during the day.

The burglar or burglars entered mainly through unlocked doors or windows. Often taken were jewelry and money.

Two other men also were changed with Barch.
