McMurray

Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Gwendolyn Gloria McMurray, 94, (born Jan. 24, 1928), of Cranberry Township, passed away peacefully in her home on Easter morning, Sunday, April 17, 2022.

The many loves she leaves behind include her children, Richard Watson (Phyllis), Bonnie Bain (Barth Bain deceased), Ron McMurray (Marianne), and Tom McMurray (Sharon); her sisters, Jean Rahl and Diane (Larry) Omatick; her brother, Raymond (Sherri) Butchko; and Ruth “Sis” Parker (raised as a sister).

Gloria was blessed with many grandchildren, Michael Beres, Jessica Painter, Amber Sambroak, Colby Colbert, and Travis, Brian, and Rick Watson; her great-grandchildren, and most recently, a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman R. McMurray, whom she married on Aug. 22, 1952, and who passed away Oct. 21, 2008.

Gloria was “Nan” or “Nanny” to not only her family, but also much of the community, especially to Seneca Valley student athletes. Attending Raider wrestling matches was the highlight of her event calendar, even after the passing of her husband, Norm (aka, “Pap”). If anyone in her very large circle of friends and family had an event, she was there.

Regardless if Gloria was your mom, nan, friend, acquaintance or just happened to be sitting next to you, she left a lasting impression. She was a master of not shying away from the truth — a characteristic not many people could possess and still be thought of fondly. An added bonus of being near Gloria was to explore the treasures of her purse. Need an aspirin? Done. Mints? Sure! Chocolate . . . what kind?

This remarkable woman survived more than any of us believed possible. The love for her ever-growing family is what kept her going. Gwendolyn Gloria “Nanny” McMurray loved fiercely, and we all tried to love her back just as much. Not one of us could be who we are today without her love and support. We love you and know that you are giving Pap heck in Heaven.

MCMURRAY — A friends and family gathering for Gwendolyn Gloria McMurray, who died Sunday, April 17, 2022, will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday at BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township, with Angela Kress officiating.
