Veda McGinnis
Veda Mary McGinnis, 107, of Boyers, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021, during her brief stay at the Parker Personal Care Home.
Born Jan. 31, 1914, in Gifford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Bertha Zillafro Cotton.
Veda graduated from Bradford High School and Clarion State Teachers College (Normal School).
She taught primarily at several local one-room school homes, including Six Points. She later was a homebound educator and was a substitute teacher for many years at AC-Valley School District.
She married D.Z. “Ike” McGinnis, who passed away in 1971.
Veda was a devoted Christian who read the Bible cover to cover several times every year. Her last church attendance was with the New Testament Baptist Church of Butler. She had a passion for music and loved playing the piano at churches she had attended throughout her lifetime.
Veda loved poetry and could recite it from memory. She adored children and was a babysitter and nanny for many families, as well as a great caretaker when needed.
Her greatest joy came from her family and 12 children. She loved having them home to see her and going to see them when she was able.
Her love continues to live on in her family and friends, with the most loving and respectful thoughts of how she touched each and everyone’s lives.
Veda is survived by her children, Karen Terwilliger, Terry (Shirley) McGinnis, Lleuellyn “Lou” McGinnis, Abbie Reeder, Louise Carrick, David “Mac” McGinnis; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
