Russell Roy Hogue, 88, of Slippery Rock, Brady Township, Butler County, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at Slippery Rock Personal Care Home, Slippery Rock.

He was born in Worth Township, Butler County, on Nov. 3, 1924, to Roy J. Hogue and Nancy Rebecka McCall.

He married Mabel Marie Grossman on March 4, 1962, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2011.

He retired from Cooper Energy, formerly Cooper Bessemer of Grove City, where worked in the foundry.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served his country during World War II on the naval destroyer USS Ringgold. He attended the St. John's United Methodist Church in Hallston.

He enjoyed working in the yard, especially in his garden, and was known for graciously sharing his crops with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and was always there to help in any way he could. He and his late wife enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sporting events and could always be seen in the crowd cheering them on. As a young man, he loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and working on construction projects with his brothers.

Surviving are one son, Russell D. (Shelley) Hogue of Slippery Rock; one stepson, R. Jack (Shirley) Jones of Slippery Rock; two brothers, Charles (Joanne) Hogue of Portersville and Fred (Joanne) Hogue of Eau Claire; and one daughter-in-law, Janyce Suppers of Leechburg.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Dalton and Connor Hogue, Bart, Greg, Doug and Curt Jones and Michelle Engelhart, who was like a granddaughter to him; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel; stepson, Don Jones; grandson, Bob Jones; great-grandson, Corey Jones; three brothers, Elmer, Ken and Don Hogue; and a sister, Evalena McConnell.

HOGUE — Visitation for Russell Roy Hogue, who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock.Services will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Barbara Moore, pastor of the St. John's United Methodist Church in Hallston, presiding. Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County.Memorial contributions may be made to the Slippery Rock Personal Care Home, 276 Ralston Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
