GROVE CITY — Slippery Rock High School graduate and Grove City College senior Brian Giesler sank four treys for 12 points in the Wolverines' 66-61 men's basketball win over Washington & Jefferson.

The Wednesday victory marked the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for Grove City (4-2, 1-0).

PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate and Duquesne University senior guard Olivia Bresnahan tallied seven points, six assists and three steals in the Dukes' 86-60 win over Kent State Wednesday.Duquesne (4-3) has won four straight games and plays Pitt at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Palumbo Center.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University has landed five players on the Daktronics All-Region football team.Defensive end Marcus Martin, cornerback Admire Carter and running back Shamar Greene earned first team honors. Offensive tackle Cory Tucker and defensive back Derrick Fulmore were second team selections.

ERIE — Seneca Valley graduate and Penn State Behrend soccer sophomore forward Alex Bilka has been named second team NCAA Division III Women's All-Great Lakes Region.Bilka scored 15 goals and added eight assists this season. Her 38 points rank fourth on Behrend's all-time list for points in a single season.Bilka has tallied 28 goals and 12 assists in her first two collegiate seasons.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska hired Oregon State's Mike Riley as its new football coach, replacing the fired Bo Pelini.Riley has spent 14 seasons over two tenures at Oregon State, leading the Beavers to 93 wins and a 6-2 record in bowl games. Athletic director Shawn Eichorst announced the move and said Riley would be formally introduced on Friday.The 61-year-old Riley has strong recruiting ties in talent-rich California and has a reputation for doing more with less at Oregon State.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley wanted a coach with an offensive track record of success. Foley even agreed to pay extra to get him.After working though a sticky buyout issue, Jim McElwain left Colorado State to become Florida's next head coach.McElwain agreed to a six-year deal at Florida that will average $3.5 million annually. He made $1.5 million this season at Colorado State.

BALTIMORE — Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.Ngata will miss the rest of the regular season but will be eligible for the playoffs, the league said.
