Dr. Sangeeth Konda of Advanced OB/GYN Associates has been added to Butler Memorial Hospital's medical staff.
Konda completed an internship at the Harrisburg Family Practice Residency Program at Pinnacle Health and her residency at Penn State's Hershey Medical Center, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology.
She completed an externship at Dunn-Erwin Medical Center in Erwin, N.C. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology.

BEAVER, Beaver County — Heritage Valley Health System, a Beaver County-based health care provider, will open an in-store clinic in the Cranberry Township Wal-Mart.It will be run by Heritage Valley Convenient Care and will open Aug. 31. The clinic is designed to provide basic health care services such as checkups, immunizations, screenings and treatment of minor injuries.

HARRISBURG — The number of people filing for their first week of unemployment benefits in Pennsylvania dropped to its lowest level in nine months.The state Department of Labor and Industry said 29,600 people submitted their initial benefits filings in the week ending Aug. 1, the latest statistics available.That's the lowest since the week ending Nov. 1.Still, that's 40 percent higher than last year at the same time, when fewer than 21,200 people filed initial claims.All told, more than 520,000 people filed for benefits in Pennsylvania during the week ending Aug. 1. That's about 1 in every 12 people in the state's work force.Pennsylvania now offers up to 79 weeks of jobless benefits. Since December 2007, Pennsylvania has lost more than 180,000 jobs, or one in every 32 jobs.

PITTSBURGH — Westinghouse Electric has opened the WEC Welding Institute in Chattanooga, Tenn.Currently, 10 students are enrolled in the no-cost program that is equipped to train and graduate up to 288 welders per year in both nuclear and non-nuclear operations.The institute certifies students after they complete an average of five months of hands-on training.After training, students can take the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' welding qualification examination. Once students pass the exam and receive certification, they must work for Westinghouse for 2,000 hours.Westinghouse also has a WEC Welding Institute in Rock Hill, S.C.
