CRANBERRY TWP — A Beaver County couple faces charges after allegedly stealing and attempting to pawn a diamond ring from a township residence.

Police say Ryan Donaldson, 30, and Ashley Nestor, 29, both from Rochester, stole the ring, cash and gift cards from homes the latter cleaned as an employee of a local cleaning service.

Both waived their charges in district court Friday.

The diamond ring allegedly stolen came from a Drake Circle home in the township, which was reported stolen Nov. 10 along with a $50 Sephora gift card.

The victim said the ring, valued at $2,200, went missing between late October and early November. Nestor worked at the home during this time frame, according to police reports.

“The owner of the cleaning company Nestor worked for was made aware of these thefts committed by Nestor and began notifying clients,” the report states.

The ring was later located at a pawnshop in Rochester, Beaver County.

“Employees there advised Nestor and Donaldson were the persons who pawned the victim’s ring at that pawnshop,” the report states.

The duo was identified from cards presented during the transaction, which took place on Nov. 8. They were paid $100 for the ring.

Nestor told police she stole jewelry from homes in Adams Township as well.

Cranberry Township police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said people should be present when cleaners are in their home and secure their valuables.

He also said people should conduct reference checks for people coming into their homes to work.

“Obviously, people are trying to find an easy way to get money,” he said.

Adams Township police also arrested a woman earlier this month for stealing jewelry from a residence.

Assistant Chief Robert Scanlon of the Adams Township police, said while incidents like these are not a rarity, it “doesn’t seem to be getting worse.”

“I would suggest having a thorough background check with whoever is working in their houses,” he said.

Nestor and Donaldson face three felony charges each, including theft, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. They also face one misdemeanor charge of theft by deception.

Both were released on their own recognizance.

They will be arraigned in county court on March 7 at the same time.

The couple also faces similar charges in Adams Township after allegedly stealing jewelry valued at $11,000 total from a Tamarack Drive home around the same time.
