PGA professional John Aubrey Sr. is tied for 12th place (72) and Ron Milanovich of St. Jude Golf Club is tied for 18th (37-35-72).
Autumn Burke had 12 kills, Katherine Smith seven kills and Krista Ebner seven kills and five aces to lead the Butler County Community College volleyball team to a 30-16, 30-13, 30-15 sweep over Westmoreland County Community College Monday.The Pioneers (25-6, 15-0 in the WPCC) will host Mercyhurst North East on Friday.
PITTSBURGH - Pitching coach Spin Williams has left the Pittsburgh Pirates' organization following a 27-year career after being the only member of the coaching staff told he would definitely not be in the majors next season.The other coaches - bench coach Pete Mackanin, hitting coach Gerald Perry, first base coach Rusty Kuntz, third base coach John Russell, bullpen coach Bruce Tanner and infield instructor Alvaro Espinoza - were told the team's new manager will be allowed to hire his own coaches.Perry, Kuntz and Espinoza have contracts for 2006 and, unless they join other organizations, will be offered minor league jobs for that season.
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates play their 2006 home opener against the Dodgers on Monday afternoon, April 10, a week after opening the season in Milwaukee.For the second season in a row, the Pirates close the season at home, with a weeklong home stand Sept. 26-Oct. 1 against Houston and Cincinnati.The Pirates play nine interleague home games, against the Twins (June 16-18), the White Sox (June 27-29) and the Tigers (June 30-July 2). They also resume their rivalry against the nearby Indians, in Cleveland on May 19-21, and will visit AL opponent Kansas City on June 20-22.But the Pirates can't duplicate this season's July 4 home sellout against Philadelphia. After years of being scheduled for July 4 home games, the Pirates play at the Mets on that holiday next season. The Pirates are at home on Memorial Day (Milwaukee) but on the road on Labor Day (Cubs).
DETROIT - Alan Trammell was fired Monday as manager of the Detroit Tigers and Jim Leyland was en route to the Motor City as the leading candidate to replace him.Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski planned to have interviewed Juan Samuel and Bruce Fields - both from Trammell's staff - before discussing the opening with Leyland about 24 hours after the regular season ended.Trammell was fired after three seasons in which he failed to turn around a franchise without a winning record since 1993. The Tigers collapsed toward the end of this season and finished 71-91.
LOS ANGELES - Jim Tracy's tenure as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers is over, one day after he finished his first losing season in five years with the team.The Dodgers announced Monday that Tracy and the team "mutually agreed to part ways." Last year, Tracy guided the team to its first division championship since 1995, but the Dodgers finished 71-91 this season, the franchise's second-worst season since moving from Brooklyn in 1958.
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics offered a new contract to manager Ken Macha Monday, though it's still unclear whether he will return for a fourth season in 2006.Macha, whose A's missed the playoffs for the second straight season, has said he is interested in returning to Oakland if the situation is right.
