College sets up refugee scholarshipBOSTON — A liberal arts college in Massachusetts has created a refugee scholarship in response to President Donald Trump's order on immigration and refugees and is calling on other colleges to do the same.Wheaton College in Norton announced the offer after the Republican billionaire issued his Jan. 27 executive order, suspending America's refugee program and halting immigration to the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries. On Saturday, the U.S. government suspended enforcement of the ban a day after a federal judge in Washington state temporarily blocked it.College President Dennis Hanno said the scholarship is meant to demonstrate that Wheaton embraces its foreign-born community, even as the White House moves in the opposite direction.

Mold creates issues at Twain's homeHARTFORD, Conn. — Mold is threatening thousands of artifacts in the Mark Twain House & Museum in Connecticut.The author's historic home in Hartford is undergoing an extensive remediation effort to clean the damage.The mold was first discovered in 2015 and impacts at least 5,000 of the museum's 16,000 artifacts, including furniture and some first editions of Twain's works.The problem was blamed on a faulty HVAC system and leaky roof that have since been repaired. The roughly $1 million project has been largely paid for using taxpayer money.The mold-removal work begins Feb. 13 and should last three to four months.Twain, whose real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, lived with his family in the home from 1874 to 1891.

Premature baby hippo takes stepsCINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Zoo says a baby hippo born prematurely has taken her first steps.Zoo spokeswoman Michelle Curley said Sunday that Fiona was active during the night and consumed a good amount of formula by herself.The baby's mother, 17-year-old Bibi, gave birth six weeks early on Jan. 24 to the first Nile hippo born there in 75 years.Staffers have been working to help Fiona grow, get stronger and learn to nurse on her own. They keep her close enough to her parents so they can hear and smell each other.
