Couple rings in new year engaged at Times Square
Andrew Codispot and Shicar Raypush have one resolution for 2017 they plan to keep: get married, possibly in June.
That’s after Raypush said “Yes” to Codispot’s New Year’s Eve wedding proposal in Times Square that was broadcast live on FOX News.
The former Marine from Butler, with the help of the Wounded Warrior Project and FOX News, popped the question to Raypush in front of a few million viewers at 9:20 p.m. Saturday.
“She said ‘Yes,’” said Codispot Monday, after flying with his fiancée back from New York Sunday night.
While Codispot told his girlfriend the visit to the FOX News site was for a veterans tribute, he said, “She was catching on toward the end when she saw I was the only veteran there. She was thinking something was up.”
Codispot said his proposal was broadcast live from the FOX site in Times Square.
“We stayed for the ball drop. FOX gave us all-access passes, so we got to see a lot of celebrities in the area. We saw Bill Nye the Science Guy, Ryan Seacrest, Jenny McCarthy.
“Amarosa was in the green room with us. Her personality is the same as it is on TV. She was standoffish,” he said.
Codispot, the son of Ted and Tammy Codispot of Butler, enlisted in the Marines after his graduation from Butler High School in 2008 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.
After being honorably discharged in 2014, Codispot came back to Butler and got a job in food service at VA Butler Healthcare.
Two years ago, he said, he met Raypush, 23, a nurse’s aide at Butler Memorial Hospital, through mutual friends.
“We just kind of hit it off from there,” he said.
