Driver injured when car hits tree on Whitestown Road

A man was hurt early Sunday when the car he was driving struck a traffic sign and a tree on the 200 block of Whitestown Road in Butler Township, authorities said.

James P. Connors, 40, of Butler suffered apparent minor injuries in the crash just before 3:30 a.m. A Butler Ambulance Service crew treated Connors and later took him to Butler Memorial Hospital. His condition was unknown.

Butler Township police said Connors was headed west when his Honda Accord went off the right side of the road, striking the sign, traveling through a yard and hitting a large tree. He was able to get out of the car on his own but complained of pain, police said. The vehicle had to be towed.

He told the investigating officer that he lost control of the car after driving over a patch of ice, police said.

The crash, police said, remains under investigation.
