Utility crews are gaining ground in restoring power to the remaining homes and businesses that had electricity cut in wake of Sunday's wind storms.

As of 7:30 a.m., 1,419 customers in Butler County were still without power. About 24 hours earlier, more than 8,000 customers had no service.

West Penn Power's website lists 1,392 homes and businesses without electricity. According to the website for Central Electric Cooperative, only 27 members in the county have no power.

Despite the headway, Todd Meyers, West Penn Power spokesman, said this morning that the time table for when service will be restored to all customers has not changed since Monday.

That means some residents may not see light in their homes until Saturday.

“What we have are widespread smaller outages that require more repair work to restore electricity to relatively smaller numbers of customers,” he said.

But help is on the way, according to Meyers. Around 165 linemen from out of state, some as far away as Missouri, arrive today to supplement West Penn Power crews working to restore electricity to customers throughout the area.
